Riding Mont Royal

Mont Royal. Montreal. Did everyone know that, and I just now figured it out? Duh!

My Warm Shower hosts got me up super early! Well, they suggested an event and it sounded like a good start to the day so I did it. We left the house at 6:30, before the sun was even up. The road up to Mont Royal was closed to cars this Sunday morning from 6 to 9. We had a fantastic early roll around the University campus towards the hill. It’s a nice enough little mountain, you can see it from everywhere except when it’s foggy like today. The hill was full of cyclists zooming up and down the hill.

That pokey thing in the distance is the stadium built for the 1976 Olympics.

My vote for best jerseys on the ride. Because bong hits and donuts and bicycles all go together, of course.

I rode around the hill for awhile, getting passed by racing bikes the whole way. The stoner munchie jerseys made me hungry, or maybe it was the scent of baking wafting around the city. After sweating around the hill, I rolled down Mont Royal and took in the Botanical Gardens and the Stadium.

This would be a great place to take my Mom. She would go mad over these Botanical Gardens.

Then I found my way back to Marche de Jean Talon. This place is like Seattle’s Pike Place times one hundred. I wandered around getting hypnotized by vegetables. Then I had coffee and some little pastry yummy things. Then I had a perfect ear of corn and some spectacular raw oysters. And then some more sweet things. Then I bought far too many vegetables. I hope my hosts like multi-colored cauliflower. Is that a good host gift? How about multi-colored carrots?

I didn’t even know eggplants grew that big.

After my meander around the market, I went back to my hosts’ house and took a little nap. My hosts were out doing some other sporty thing, and I took advantage of the empty house and took a bath. I don’t even know when the last time I soaked was. So long that I can’t remember.

My hosts have two fat fuzzy cats. This one even looks like a certain fuzzy pants cat, except he has a tail. The cats are very interested in my bags. I’ve caught them both trying to climb inside my panniers.

It would have been a perfect day, except….. I couldn’t get wifi! What’s a location independent blogger to do? None of my gadgets will connect at my hosts’ house. I rode around looking for a cafe where I could connect and for some reason my Mac totally failed me. Technology fails make me batshit frustrated. Finally I found a Starbucks, where the Buskstar magic worked and I could get online. This is the sacrifice I made so that I could post my blog tonight.
