When I toured East Timor in 2010, I had just missed the annual Tour de Timor mountain bike race. I did get to see the murals painted around the island. And the tee shirts they must have tossed out to the crowds. I’m not sure the race is still going on. One write-up I read for the 2013 race said the organization was poorly managed. The Timorese cyclists were protesting their lack of support. There was no beer at the finish line. Still, if someone was looking for a bicycle race in a place like no other, this would be that race.
